    Recommended Books

    • Sound Reproduction: The Acoustics and Psychoacoustics of Loudspeakers and Rooms
      by Floyd Toole

Summarizes a lot of the key primary research done into how humans perceive sound quality (or psychoacoustics), much of it by done by Toole himself. Extensive referencing of major research papers provides opportunity for further study.

    • Master Handbook of Acoustics
by F. Alton Everest, Ken Pohlmann

A fantastic overview of all of the main bases of acoustics. Each chapter is a summary of the important things to understand and know about that topic. It provides a good foundation, upon which those with the need or thirst for deeper understanding can follow up on the references provided in each chapter.

    • High Performance Loudspeakers
      by Martin Colloms

Although not strictly related to acoustics, this book, now in its 6th edition, provides an in depth review of many aspects of loudspeaker design including the 'TwoPort' model of a loudspeaker, the impact of enclosures and a review of the bending mode radiator (BMR). Advanced level reading requiring familiarity with loudspeaker, acoustics and mathematics but nevertheless highly recommended.

    • Loudspeakers: For music recording and reproduction
      by Philip Newell, Keith Holland

Provides a broad overview of loudspeaker technology including a good chapters on horn loudspeakers and the impact of cables on the amplifier/speaker interface. We found the book a bit light on theory compared to say the Colloms book also included here but because of this it is definitely an easier starting point.
